I'm hoping to start this blog off with several different aims. The first aim is to cross-pollinate music from friends and colleagues in Finland, and in the U.S. or whom I met during my time at Berklee, and so we can all get connected. I feel that blogs take more time, take more energy, and are less curated than faster social medias, and they have always appealed to me more if I am going to try to get stuff out there. Here, I can share the creative processes of albums and tracks that I have taken inspiration from, and hopefully it can be interesting and inspiring! This is a labour of love for me that I can connect different networks and groups of people especially if more out of the mainstream, to discover something that moves someone or touches them in a way that they did not expect. I know so much music is so important to me on many different levels and I am looking forward to sharing that with someone, (if anyone ever decides to read blogs these days). If I do not know you but for whatever reason you want me to interview you about your music, please do get in touch! My second aim, is to try and use this as a teaching tool both for myself and for others, writing and reading in Finnish! It is important to me that I practice and improve my Finnish writing and why not in a setting where it can also be useful. It may not have to be perfect for others to read it and say "wow, I can learn something from this!" I cannot say how much joy and work and struggle it has been for me to learn the Finnish language, and yet, something that I must say that I did as a core value inside me. To me, this was the only option. Never did I think that I would come here and not learn Finnish, it was just like that. It helps that I genuinely love languages, sounds, meanings! Still if you are reading this as someone who is struggling and has moved to Finland, I urge you strongly to not give up and to keep trying and to be sometimes a bit hardass with yourself, though not too much! My last aim might be to share sometimes thoughts about pedagogy and about some trumpet players that I dig! I was inspired by for example Jason Palmer's blog of trumpet players when I was a teenager, I remember at one point I made a list of all of them he recommended, although I am sure that I never got through all of them and got stuck in some rabbit hole! Now I have built up my own favorites, so get ready! Other than that, maybe at some point I might share some fun Finnish words or thoughts about life as a musician and student in Finland...katsotaan!
